3 Tips For Improving The Sound Quality Of Your New Hearing Aids

Posted on

If you recently started wearing hearing aids, you may be wondering if there is anything you can do to improve the sound quality and keep them in optimal working order. If so, use one or more of the following three tips.

Wear Your Hearing Aids Every Day

When you first receive your new hearing aids, you need to give yourself time to adjust to them. Not only will you have to get used to the way they feel in your ears, but you may also not be accustomed to they way they transmit sound into your ear canal.

Especially during this adjustment period, wear your hearing aids every day. This includes days when you do not feel like going out and may not see any need to wear them. The more you wear your hearing aids, the quicker you will get used to the feel and the sounds they produce.

Remember That Louder Is Not Always Better

When adjusting the volume on your appliances, you may be tempted to turn the sound all the way up, thinking that the louder the speaker, the better you will hear. However, louder is not always better when it comes to the volume on your hearing aids.

For example, if you are in a room with a lot of people talking at the same time, you may notice that the voices start to overpower each other. In this case, you may want to lower the volume halfway.

If you are playing loud music, however, you may need to turn it down lower to decrease the amount of crackling and distortion. Over time, you will learn for yourself when you should adjust the volume to a suitable level. This is yet another reason to wear them as often as possible, as discussed in the first section.

Keep The Ear Piece Wax-Free

Another way to improve the sound quality is to keep the ear pieces wax-free. If wax from your ears remains on the ear pieces, it can eventually clog up the speakers. If this happens, sounds may be muffled or perceived as if you are listening under water.

Clean the wax off of your hearing aids every morning. Do not attempt to wipe it off at night while it is still wet, however, as you may smear it. Let the appliances air out over night to dry the wax, then wipe them clean.

Using the above tips can help you improve and maintain the sound quality of your hearing appliances. However, if you have any questions or concerns, you may want to contact your hearing specialist to see if they have any additional advice.
